Brighton Comedy Festival 2009: It started without me…
The Brighton Comedy Festival kicks off tomorrow, and it sort of appeared without me seeing it coming.
Paramount Comedy pulled out of the festival because they didn’t find it funny anymore. And it seems they took the ad spend with them. Google “Brighton Comedy Festival 2009″ The Hussy is on the first page, for any large event this place is normally the preserve of tickets sellers and promoters standing to earn a butty by telling you how great everything is, oh yes it is, honest, but a ticket. But they aren’t there and I am.
I found a brochure for the festival in the Peter Pan playground, which is where you would normally expect to find a soggy porn stash. So, what does the brochure tell me…
There are 54 comics on the bill
Alan Carr is the most expensive ticket, £30
There are 7 funny women in Brighton this month
There are LOADS of comedy awards, most comics own one
Everyone can quote a 5 star review
If a comic hasn’t been on TV they have been on Radio4
Radio 4 isn’t funny
Gay men are funny
Irish people are funny
Al Murray is second priciest, £25
Beauty is not an asset to comedy
Most of the female comics cost under £12
I am mainly looking forwards to Frisky and Mannish
